visual art deadline/performance signups
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008live performances on saturday
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008i’ve had a few questions about live performances for brand new mountain speeches, so i’ll clarify here… on saturday, the gallery will be open from 6-11pm where people can walk around and see all the different visual art pieces created. during that time, we’ll have a time for live performances while people check out the art work. these performances will cover a wide range of styles (poetry, drama, dance, music, etc.). most likely, it’ll probably be about 2 hours of live performances. we did want it to be work that was created in response to the sermon on the mount. i know it’s limiting, but i guess that’s the point…
we’ll have the stage set up for a full band to be able to play, so each person playing must do the following:
1) coordinate how you want to present that piece (you solo on an acoustic guitar, or with a full-fledged 22 piece band). 2) email me and let me know they’re playing and what they will be playing, as well as sound needs for the night (so we can be as prepared as possible). once i get this list, i’ll email everyone and let them know what time they should show up.
we’re basically considering it a glorified open mic. i know some people have already coordinated who they want to play with them and what. i’m open to whatever, just let me know if you do want to play. i’d love to have as many people play as possible. your performance doesn’t have to be perfect. your song might feel half done. i’d say just perform it and continue to develop the song after the art show.
hope this all makes sense! can’t wait to see/hear/experience all of this on saturday with you guys!!

(written by joel)
wanted to give you all an update on this weekend. we will be out at rushing winds vineyard both this friday night (april 11th) for the response night and then saturday (april 12th) during the day for those who want to be around others and create. for those who haven’t been out there yet, it’s ridiculously beautiful and inspiring just to be out there! it’s a real vineyard that has a pond and some great places to explore. i think for those wanting to devote a bit of time to creating, it’ll be a perfect environment. here’s the address:
Rushing Winds Vineyard
8801 Henley Ave.
Oklahoma City, OK 73131-4007
here’s a link to mapquest: http://www.mapquest.com/mq/3-hzM7If*yCA1hTOu5 . it’s only about 4 miles from the church. you head down britton (east from broadway extension or west from 35) and then go south on henley (it’s just west of bryant) all the way to the end and it’ll dead end you right into their driveway (the last one on the right). make sure you don’t go north on henley place (which is west of henley ave on britton). drive up their driveway past the main house on the left and park on the grass near the barn. make sure to not block the entrance to the barn.
for those who are interested in sleeping at the vineyard, let me know because we have access to a few beds that have all the bedding on them. if there are more people than beds, we can put some cots and air mattresses in the barn, but let us know! you’ll have access to showers there as well.
here’s the basic schedule:
friday night
6pm - dinner in the barn (bring your own dinner and a snack to share)
7pm - response (reading the sermon on the mount)
8pm till late – create. we’ll have access to the barn and a couple of the houses. we’ll have tea, coffee and snacks for everyone to enjoy. feel free to bring wine or whatever else. bring stuff you’re working on to show others or encourage others in their work. collaborate. work on an individual piece. whatever. we’re just trying provide a space for us to create and interact with each other. for those who just want to hang out, we might just watch “heima” or something.
saturday
9:30am – breakfast in the bunkhouse (just to the left of the barn. we’ll have waffles and other tasty treats. let us know if you plan on eating with us so we can have the right amount of food)
10 till 4 – create. share. dream. pray. walk the vineyard. come and go as you please. refine.
what to bring
- bible
- elements of creation (camera, easel, paints, brushes, canvases, guitar, journal, etc. if you’re painting stuff, make sure to bring a tarp! we want to keep it as clean as possible.)
- dinner & snacks
- sleeping gear (if you’re staying in the barn)
- towel & hygiene products (there are showers there)
you can come to as much or as little as you want. i think attempting to come out for a bit would be really beneficial just to get you away from distractions and allow you to focus, but no pressure! i know there are a few other things going on this weekend in the plaza and the households show, so if you can come, that’s great. just as a reminder, email me at joel@onetruth.com and let me know if:
- you want to stay the night
- you will be around for breakfast
alright, i think that’s it! can’t wait to create with you this weekend.
filming session 1
Thursday, April 3rd, 2008Tonite Levi and I (Sam) filmed Joel, Chris and Dustin working on a couple songs, in the birthing stage (their words)… it was a really productive shoot as I feel like we got some good shots, and audio clips of the collaboration. Afterwards Joel and I sat down with each of the guys and interviewed them about the art collaborative as a whole and specifically about the process of creating a song in response to a passage. They all agreed that it is not an easy task taking Jesus’ words and trying to write something that is incarnational in nature (lyrically and musically).
It was a great start, we just need more people to call us when you are creating in your groups (or by yourself) so we can document some more projects. Hopefully leading to a videomentary with all sorts of visual processes… we want to use all sorts of clips for the videomenatry, so even if you write poetry or are painting, et cetera… footage is footage that can be edited and included in the final dvd.
if your creating and don’t mind a fly on the wall (we are not invasive filmers…), call or email me: Levi or J.Leigh can post their phone #’s in the comment section (if you want).
